Burnham & Weston Energy was announced as Sustainability Partner of the Year at the highly anticipated Weston College Business Awards last Thursday (15th June).
Held at Weston-super-Mare’s prestigious Winter Gardens, the event brought together 250 distinguished guests for an inspiring celebration of learners and local employers who have worked closely with Weston College to offer work-place opportunities to people starting their career.
Including prominent figures from the local business community, educators, and local dignitaries, attendees gathered to honour the outstanding achievements and commitment of individuals and businesses alike.
Burnham & Weston Energy’s sustainability commitment
The award recognised Burnham and Weston Energy’s commitment to creating a more sustainable future and driving positive change. The work that they have completed with Weston College students has also been impressive, supporting initiatives such as Great Big Green Week, Beach Cleans, and working in partnership with the College to deliver a Community Energy Youth Summit, itself attracting nearly 200 participating students from across Weston.
Principal and CEO of Weston College Group, Sir Paul Phillips, who hosted the awards, said: “This year we received a huge number of nominations and, while this made judging an unenviable task, it highlights the wealth of talent among our learners and the level of dedication and expertise within our employer network.
“It was fantastic to celebrate the many successes of our work-based learners, who show outstanding commitment to their programmes. They are truly a credit to the College and their employers.
“Working with key employers is key to us in supporting the region to level up, and it was a pleasure to recognise so many brilliant businesses.
“I would like to say congratulations to Burnham and Weston Energy, and we are delighted to work closely with them. We share a passion for creating opportunities for our learners, and together we are developing a more sustainable workforce for the future.”
Collaboration vital to achieving local sustainability goals
Lynda Wookey, Director at Burnham & Weston Energy added: “To be chosen as ‘Sustainability Partner of the Year’ by Weston College highlights not only the importance of community energy to improving the environment and the communities in which we live, but also that working in partnership to engage young people is important in making that positive difference.
“Our Award also shows organisations of all have the opportunity to work collaboratively to drive action against climate change. Burnham & Weston Energy was shortlisted for ‘Sustainability Partner of the Year’ alongside internationally recognised companies Airbus and Bristol Airport. As a small, volunteer-led, organisation, we have been recognised for the role we and community energy plays in delivering ambitious local climate goals. Working in partnership and engaging young people amplifies what we can achieve.”
